In 1998, at the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Cannabis use and the highest level of sport possible were thrust into the same spotlight. Ross Rebagliati won the inaugural Men’s Snowboarding Gold Medal for Canada and, after winning, was disqualified. A blood test found Ross to have Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in his circulatory system. Unprecedented and without THC being on the list of banned substances, Ross gained his medal back. The next day he appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and became an instant icon to many globally.
Since that day, Ross has become a cultural phenomenon in the cannabis world and is an outspoken advocate of medical cannabis. He continues to be a leading spokesperson for the benefits of medical cannabis and CBD in the areas of sports training, injuries, pain management, and stress. Ross especially believes that CBD (Cannabidiol) has very powerful anti-inflammatory properties. Reducing inflammation helps to better manage the aches and pains an athlete’s body chronically endures. It also has a calming effect reducing stress and anxiety which are two more realities of being a high level athlete.
